‘Wytches’ Goes To Series At Prime Video
by Erik Amaya
Amazon is back to buying up all the comics it can.
Deadline reports Prime Video has given a series order to an animated adaptation of Scott Snyder and Jock‘s Wytches. The original comic book, published by Image, focused on Sailor Rooks, a seven-year-old whose family moves to “a remote New England town after a tragic accident, only to discover that a burrow of monsters — ancient creatures that prey on our darkest fears and desires — lurks beneath the town.”
In a statement, Snyder said, “Wytches is possibly my most personal work … it’s all about the monsters that dwell beneath the surface of things, both literally and figuratively. I’ve been intimately involved with this animated series from the start, and I can honestly say that I love this show as much as the book, if not more. The animation brings the incredible art by Jock to life, and the episodic format expands the world of Wytches, taking the characters and mythology to terrifying new places.”
Both Snyder and Jock server as executive producers with Amazon Studios and Kevin Kolde.
The addition of Wytches speaks to Prime Video and Amazon Studios’ renewed interest in comic book properties. In recent days the Amazon companies picked up an adaptation of Boom! Studios’ Butterfly and entered into a final round of talks to turn Criminal into a television series.
