Clover Press to Publish ‘The Complete Dick Tracy’ in New Format

Finally making all 29 volumes the same size on your shelves… Clover Press and the Library of American Comics are publishing volumes 1-6 of Dick Tracy from September 2023.

Clover Press is partnering with the Library of American Comics to publish The Complete Dick Tracy Vols. 1-6, a collection of classic comic strips featuring the iconic detective created by Chester Gould.

The six volumes will feature the complete Dick Tracy comic strips from its debut in 1931 through to 1939, all reprinted in their original black and white line art.

But crucially, this time, those first six volumes will be in the same format as the rest of the 29-volume series. Because, seriously, as anyone can tell you who’s looked at their bookshelves and shuddered with horror at a book or comic series with mismatched sizes or formatting… the pain is real.

When these first six volumes were originally published in 2006-2009 by IDW they were in a 9.5” x 7” hardcover format – different to volumes 7-29, which were published in the 11” x 8.5” format. Thankfully, with these new Clover Press volumes, readers and collectors have the chance to make those shelves look perfect again with all 29 volumes having the same format, not to mention new cover designs to reflect the designs of volumes 7-29.

Additionally, the first 34 Dick Tracy Sunday pages, with stories separate from the daily continuity, have been rescanned in color to make them sharper and cleaner than their original reprinting. Plus, each volume of The Complete Dick Tracy features the original introductions and interviews by Dick Tracy writer Max Allan Collins that appeared in the previous editions.

The six volumes of The Complete Dick Tracy will be released two at a time, starting in September 2023, through comic book retailers, bookstores, online retailers, and directly from Clover Press.
