7/10Welcome to the table,
I’m sitting here trying to answer a single question… “What the hell did I just read?”
The answer is easy… kinda? It’s The Giant KOKJÜ #1.

I was not ready for this one. Touted as a “one-of-a-kind comic experience,” they were not wrong.
Gerry Duggan and Scott Koblish join forces yet again to bring The Giant Kokjü to the world. It’s a 3-issue miniseries that is sure to deliver laughs, tears, nausea, questionable looks, mild discomfort, sleepless nights, and bouts of “What the hell did I just read?”
Now available from Image Comics, The Giant Kokjü, as far as I can tell, is the story of a monster with some unique…. needs. Rising from the sea and missing bits and pieces with bone exposed under torn skin, it clearly required a restroom, some snacks, and some sexual healing. I can assure you that promise of a “one-of-a-kind experience” was not wrong as a page turn in this first chapter has you face to face with something that is throbbing, spiked, and recently freed from the tight confines of an office building’s upper floors.
In the spirit of what feels like a Troma film, The Giant Kojü has weird gore, sex with inanimate objects, monster nudity, streets full of poop, comedy, social commentary, a giant robot, and some punchy action-film style swearing.
Duggan and Koblish are pushing boundaries in a way that is both kinda expected and totally weird and new. There was a guy in college who made a student film called Humpinstine. It was exactly what it sounds like. This legit feels like that, but with better color contrast and giant monsters. Fun, wacky, and disturbing, but for sure memorable.
