Alchemy RPG Set To Launch With Exclusives From Kobold Press, Free League, And Paizo
by Anton Kromoff
Welcome to the table,
For years and years, I ran TTRPGs at comic shops surrounded by customers, employees, and occasionally other gamers who fielded wildly expensive miniature armies that to this day boggle my mind. Eventually, we wanted to drink and have better food at the table and moved our game to the house where we only had to be beholden to each other, our significant others, and the neighbors.
But, as things go, people grow, change, and have families of their own, and eventually free time does not sync up as it once did. We tried to play in the theater of the mind over Skype but without a shared dice roller (in those days) and a map to work combat out on, more often than not things were a little less crunchy than the table liked and it always felt like we were playing one of those games where half the features were behind a paywall and you just did not have the money or desire to pay the additional costs.
Roll20 came on the scene for us and changed our lives. Most of my players are scattered across the globe working creative jobs, and in-person play with each other would take travel coordination and time away from studios and animation houses to even make a long weekend happen.
So playing in a virtual tabletop (VTT) space has been amazing for the last six years or so, allowing me to be able to play with the people I want to play with most even when they are half a world away.

For those not in the gaming space, a VTT is a digital platform that allows TTRPGs to be played online, typically in a browser. The VTT provides a virtual environment where players can see the same table and simulate the experience of sitting around a physical table to play RPGs. You don’t get the ability to toss wads of paper at your friends or steal pepperonis off their slices of pizza, but a VTT does include features like virtual battle mats, character sheets, dice rollers, chat, and other assorted tools to help facilitate gameplay.
The Storyteller and players can create and edit their character sheets, move tokens or miniatures on the virtual battle mats, and interact with the game world and other players in a fashion that is as close to playing in person as possible. What’s been really heartwarming to see is that every few months there seem to be leaps forward evolving the VTT experience to be even more user-friendly.
A new virtual tabletop experience is coming to market tomorrow. Alchemy RPG is set to launch and claims to be focused on cinematic immersion and theater-of-the-mind gameplay.
