Cheryl And Archie Are Headed To The Alter On This Week’s ‘Riverdale’

Riverdale has a lot of ships, but Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Archie (KJ Apa)? Probably not a couple most fans had on their bingo cards this season. Nevertheless, it sounds like they’re serious about getting hitched in this trailer for Wednesday’s episode:
So, it turns out Veronica’s kissing party might have some repercussions after all, but otherwise, last week’s episode didn’t offer much in the way of new developments. It wasn’t a bad episode. Toni (Vanessa Morgan) having an Audrey–Hepburn-in-Funny–Face moment at the open mic was a nice touch while Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) almost bonding over a shared love of monster movies was surprising in the best way. Later Veronica sounded pretty dismissive about that relationship going anywhere, but why not? If season 7 is all about taking big swings that would certainly be a change from the usual couple pairings.
Basically, though, until the trailer proved otherwise, Veronica’s party seemed destined to be forgettable, with most of the relationships treading water and not progressing anywhere.
Some other thoughts on last week’s episode:
- Alice (Mädchen Amick) seemed awfully gung-ho to help Ethel (Shannon Purser), which begs the question is Hal (Lochlyn Munro) the milkman who murdered Ethel’s parents? If he were, one would think Alice wouldn’t want Ethel around him so much so as to recognize him, but at the same time this could be her way of deflecting suspicion or possibly guilt, and there was that pointed comment that Hal doesn’t consider his family, which could be a reference to ’50s Hal being just as murderous as 21st century Hal.
- It’s weird getting used to Cheryl’s brother being Julian (Nicholas Barasch) and not Jason (Trevor Stines). Granted, they didn’t get along when Julian was a haunted doll, but Jason and Cheryl were so close, while Julian is conspiring with Cheryl’s mother (Nathalie Boltt). The show finally gave Cheryl a sibling, but they don’t have a relationship, so it’s more like Julian’s filling in for Reggie (Charles Melton) than a Blossom.
