Statue, Statue, Statue: Dark Horse Reveals Dynamic Bust Featuring Vox Machina’s Vex And Vax

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Ohhh man! So the comic shop I spent most of my formative years in, worked in, and will always compare all other comic shops to had a massive wall-sized shelf behind the register with the owner’s collection of Bowen Marvel Bust Statues. He had them all I am pretty sure. Like, even the super variant ones that are hard to come by. It was such an impressive collection. They were not for sale.

You could order one when they were solicited for sure, but his collection was his and when they went on his shelf, they were purely for him to display. Now, older, wiser, and with a much cooler place to call home I’ve been able to start getting into some statue collecting of my own. And right now I have my eyes on Dark Horse Direct and Critical Role’s new team-up featuring Vox Machina’s Vex’ahlia and Vax’ildan!

Made of polyresin this bust stands approximately 7.5″ tall, and depicts fan favorites Vex and Vax in the throes of combat. Based on the tankard in Vax’s hand and ale sloshing through the air they have gotten into some sort of tavern brawl. Sculpted by Tommy Hodges and painted by J.W. Productions, this bust pulls its inspiration from the Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins comic that Dark Horse publishes.

Now if you want this work of art you’ll have to be quick, we’re talking “Dagger, Dagger, Dagger” quick, as the statues are limited to only 1,000 units. Each collectible bust comes with a hand-numbered base and a certificate of authenticity, making it a prize worthy of Vex’ahlia herself.

With a $149.99 price point, the bust is expected to ship sometime between February and April 2024. And for those who pre-order early, there’s a special bonus of $10 off the purchase price, though that offer is only available through April 24th, 2023 so if you want to take advantage of it, you need to act quickly.

Fans can pre-order the Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins – Vex’ahlia and Vax’ildan Bust exclusively from DarkHorseDirect.com, and we’ve been told to keep an eye out for more character collectibles being announced soon from Dark Horse Direct soon.

Until next time, while we wait for our statues to arrive I think we should, in the words of Vex’ahlia “find a very expensive tavern…and get completely shitfaced.”
