‘The Flash’ Season 9, Episode 9 Review

Given that The Flash is in its final season — and it’s the last call for the Arrowverse — there is a lot that the show wants to accomplish before it’s all over. This episode was a huge example of that. It was jam-packed with a lot of guest stars and fan service. Not to mention it had an enormous Multiversal threat on par with a multi-episode crossover. Sadly, little of it worked in the episode’s favor. It was so bloated, it bordered on the ridiculous. So from a quality standpoint, it was very hard to get into. But that doesn’t mean long time fans can’t enjoy it. They would just need to turn off their brain and not set their expectations too high.
Because of something that happened in the past, Barry’s (Grant Gustin) body reversed itself. So he was able to have a second 30th birthday party. Many of his friends showed up including John Diggle (David Ramsey) and brother-in-law Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale). Unfortunately, the party was crashed by the return of Bloodwork (Sendhil Ramamurthy). He plans to use Wally’s connection to the Multiverse to spread his influence throughout all of existence. And because creation itself was at risk, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) stepped in to help stop it. Teaming up with Barry, Diggle, and Kid Flash, they all worked together to stop Bloodwork and save the Multiverse.
There definitely were a lot of fun parts of this episode. It was nice seeing Bloodwork return, as well as several other characters. Bloodwork even has some fun moments as he tortured the inner workings of several characters. However, this episode is so ridiculously farfetched that it makes zero sense. It shows that The Flash had definitely run its course and the writing is suffering because of it. So while the episode doesn’t stand out as anything particularly special, it does have plenty of fan service to appreciate, even if it is completely absurd.
