Z2 Comics and cartoonist and jazz scholar Dave Chisholm look back on the four glorious decades of legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis in Miles Davis And The Search For The Sound.
Miles Davis’ music stands the test of time, a revolutionary, a visionary, pushing the sound of jazz forward – and now cartoonist (and jazz trumpeter himself) Dave Chisholm and Z2 Comics are celebrating and honouring Davies with a new graphic novel biography Miles Davis and the Search for the Sound. Produced in association with the Davis family, it takes a journey from his Illinois childhood through the white heat years of the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s.
The graphic novel chronicles Davis’ journey from his childhood in Illinois to mastering jazz improvisation throughout the ’40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s with Chisholm’s understanding of the medium and the music illustrating Davis’ life and music in a variety of visual styles, perfect for something intending to capture the essence of what made him so revolutionary, so essential.
The Search For The Sound comes out from Z2 Comics in September 2023.
