Preview: Another Classic British Humour Strip Gets Collected — Get Yer Gnashers Around ‘Gums’

The Great White (Toothless) Shark returns to menace the Australian coast this November in the first collection of the classic Robert Nixon strip.
Hot on the heels of the success of Jaws in 1975, Brit humour comic Monster Fun debuted Gums… a perfect way to captialise on the attention the movie was getting.
Written by Roy Davis with art initially by the brilliant Robert Nixon from Gums’ first appearance in Monster Fun #35 (Feb 1976) through to Monster Fun #59 where the title was taken on by Alf Saporito, Gums is just a classic of Brit humour comics.
The hapless, loveable shark spends his time losing his false teeth, usually thanks to local surfer Bluey. Gums’ plans are to get his teeth and take a bite out of Bluey whilst Bluey wants nothing more than Bluey’s teeth as a trophy.
The new collection of this classic bit of Brit comic silliness comes out on 22 November from the Treasury of British Comics and contains the very earliest Gums strips from February 1976 to Oct 1976 from Monster Fun as well as the Monster Fun annual stories from 1977 to 1985.
And now, a little of what you can expect from the collection… albeit a mix of pages from the new collection and old scans and copies – expect that Treasury of British Comics restoration process to work its magic and make the strip look fresh and new once more!
