Mark Russell And Peter Snejbjerg’s Satirical, Sugar-Soaked ‘Monster Serials’ Gets A Graphic Novel From AHOY Comics

by Olly MacNamee

I love horror and I love cereal. So, when Mark Russell and Peter Snejbjerg started writing one of the weirdest and most wonderful mash-ups in comicdom with his cereal-based Monster Serials chillers in AHOY Comics’ Edgar Allen Poe’s Snifter of Terror series and other subsequent Edgar Allen Poe anthologies, I was sold straight away. So, you can imagine my excitement when io9 revealed that Russell was writing a whole graphic novel worth of sugary shockers.

A combination of classic gothic horror tropes mixed in with childhood breakfast favourites, Russell told io9:

“Monsters play such an expansive role in our collective conscience, being used for everything from giving face to our deepest fears to selling us breakfast cereal. This book looks at monsters from every angle at once. It sees them as we are—as cartoonish but scary, as comical, and yet, still sad.”

Cereal, an all-new graphic novel will be out this Halloween season from AHOY Comics.
