It’s Small Press Day On Saturday 5th August – Get Involved…

Small Press Day is an annual celebration and promotion of small press publishing and self-publishing in comics – and we should all be getting behind it!

It began with an idea in 2016 by cartoonist, author of the wonderful Walkies, and now owner of Jam bookshop, David ‘Ziggy’ Greene – something he’d thought of whilst seeing all the success of Record Store Day and wondering why comics didn’t do something similar.

Since then the idea and the scope of Small Press Day has blossomed into something that takes over book shops and comic shops up and down the UK and Ireland every year, celebrating the enormous talent and enjoyment to be found in small press, small publishing, and self-published comics. Each year will see more and more events – signings, sketchings, draw-ins, anything really that promotes and celebrates comics in their purest forms!

And make no mistake about it, the small press, small publishing, self-publishing scene in the UK and Ireland is incredibly strong, just as it is in the USA, with the future talents coming up with some incredible material. Over the years, both in the UK and now in the USA, I’ve championed so many great smaller publishers and amazingly talented individuals, doing my level best to get their works before you here at Comicon – so try something new! It’s so going to be worth it!
