‘Superman & Lois’ Renewed For A Fourth Season At The CW

Despite the changes at The CW and its new president, Brad Schwartz, saying the network is not in the superhero business, the series has been renewed for a fourth season in the 2023-2024 broadcast schedule. The CW also renewed All-American: Homecoming, the other remaining series from the old network regime. In a statement, Schwartz said “These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
The renewal will definitely come as a relief to fans of superhero shows produced by Berlanti Productions, the company behind the entire Arrowverse, Titans, Stargirl, and Doom Patrol. Most of those programs were ended in the last 18 months as changes to The CW and Warner Bros. Discovery led to a DC style Crisis.
Superman & Lois, meanwhile, continues to impress viewers with its mix of small town family drama and superhero action. Our own Frank Martin regularly calls it the best superhero show on television in his weekly reviews. The current storyline pits Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) against Bruno Mannheim (Chad L. Coleman) and the specter of Lex Luthor’s (Michael Cudlitz) return. It is unclear what a fourth season will entail as its writers are currently on strike.
The fate of the one other CW superhero show, Gotham Knights, remains to be decided. The Arrowverse, meanwhile, wrapped up last month with the series finale of The Flash. UPDATE: Gotham Knights has been cancelled.
