‘Superman & Lois’ Cuts Most Of Its Cast For Season 4

by Erik Amaya

Although Superman & Lois lives on for another season, it comes at a substantial cut to its standing cast.

Per TVLine, the only returning cast members for the fourth season are stars Tyler Hoechlin (Superman), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), Michael Bishop (Jonathan Kent), and the newly promoted Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor. The entire Smallville-based cast — including Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cushing), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons), and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo) — have been let go. Additionally, Dylan Walsh, who appears as Lois’s father, Sam, was also cut.

Reportedly, the last-minute series renewal came with a deep cut to the show’s budget and removing seven series regular was part of the solution. It is unclear what their departures means for the story, but fans are already suggesting the Kents will move back to Metropolis as they face off against Clark’s primary foe. That makes a certain amount of sense, especially as the world of Smallville the other regulars created will feel oddly empty without them.

Provided a speedy end to the Writers Guild strike, the show will return in the 2024-2025 midseason as a very different program no matter where it is set. If the strike continues into the fall, though, one wonders if the renewal will be reversed.

Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays on The CW.
