The Worlds of Aldebaran by Leo is a wonderfully European series, expansive, humanist sci-fi, telling of multiple voyages to distant planets – Aldebaran, Betelgeuse, Antares, and now Neptune – following two heroines, Kim and Marie and their adventures in the stars. Alien landscapes, bizarre creatures, new civilisations, the mysteries of the Mantris, and fantastical challenges await with each new volume.
It’s all told in six-story cycles so far, with Neptune being the latest. There have been 5 volumes of Aldebaran, 5 of Betelgeuse, 6 of Antares, 5 of The Survivors, 3 of Return to Aldebaran, and the two of Neptune.

You can read it as standalone series but the best way is absolutely to start at the beginning and immerse yourself into Leo’s worlds.
Everything began with the very first Aldebaran colonists in 2079 coming from an overcrowded and polluted Earth. They were expected to be just the first of many but a terrible accident meant that a century passed before the next. In the interim, the Aldebaran colony struggled to survive, isolated on this alien planet, exploring and creating their own society. But Aldebaran was merely the start, Betelgeuse took us over 100 years into the future and the second attempts at colonisation. And so it goes, each cycle opening up new experiences, new worlds.

In the latest adventure, Neptune, an alien ship of unknown origin arrived in orbit of the Earth – except it was an alien ship with very human, very English markings on its exterior. No contact can be made with this new visitor, so Marie, now a member of the UN Special Forces, and her team are sent to investigate both this smaller craft and the world-ship, discovered just off Neptune.
After their first attempt at boarding met with failure, the exploration team contaminated by deadly nanorobots, it’s all down to Marie, with her Matris-improved body, and Kim, also immune, to make a second attempt. It’s a race against time, with the Earth authorities wanting to destroy the ship, and Marie and Kim wanting to explore both the robotic dangers and the mysterious human passengers on the World Ship.
For fans of Leo’s Aldebaran epic, this is a must. For those of you who’ve yet to experience it, it’s epic sci-fi in a very Euro comics style.
