Nathan Fillion is finally getting a key part in a James Gunn superhero movie.
Vanity Fair reports the actor will appear in Superman Legacy as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, the infamous recipient of Batman’s “one punch” in the pages of Justice League International. The loudmouth is a fan favorite among certain segments of the DC Comics fanbase. Fillion, for his part, has been a longtime member of Gunn’s extended repertory company, but sat out most of the director’s superhero work barring an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and a cut cameo as Wonder Man in Vol. 2.
Guy Gardner’s role in Legacy further cements Gunn’s plan to introduce Superman to a world where superheroes already exist. Besides Gardner, the film will also feature Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Additionally, the Authority is also expected to appear, but it is possible the three characters will belong to that group of extreme superheroes.
David Corenswet is set to star as the Man of Steel while Rachel Brosnahan joins him as Lois Lane. According to Gunn, the film will see Clark Kent, freshly arrived in Metropolis, reconciling his human upbringing with his Kryptonian heritage in a plot that is not an origin story, but nonetheless serves as an introduction to a new status quo for the DCU.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to debut July 11th, 2025.
