‘Red Sonja’ #1 Increases Print Run After Selling Over 72,000 Copies

Red Sonja #1 has more than the character’s fiftieth anniversary to celebrate.
According to Dynamite, the first issue of the character’s new ongoing series has sold over 72,000 copies and is increasing its print run. Written by Torunn Grønbekk with art from Walter Geovani, the new title sees the She-Devil with a sword accused of a crime she did not commit. On the run even as an “unseen force” tugs at her mind, Sonja must determine the real who and why of them murder and, possibly, the sinister plot underneath. She also ruminates on everything that has brought her to this point, what her destiny holds, and where she will venture next. As the company put it, “big surprises await readers, as the creative team pays tribute to the golden anniversary legend, while challenging her and the audience’s expectations along the journey.”
With a high final order cutoff amount, Dynamite is expecting a high reorder demand and has added additional copies to its initial print run, bring the volume up to over 85,000 copies in total. The company also mentioned subsequent issues will feature covers from the likes of Joshua Middleton, Frank Cho, Stephen Platt, InHyuk Lee and more.
Red Sonja #1 hits comic book stores on July 19th.
