2023 ENNIE Awards: ‘ddice’ Nominated For Best Aid And Accessory

It’s that time of year again. The 2023 ENNIEs are upon us, and I for one am delighted. For those who may not be familiar with the ENNIEs, you can hop over to this link and learn a little bit about them, then jump on back and learn all about dddice, The 3D Dice Company one of the nominees for Best Aid and Accessory category.
In the same way that the intersection of collecting and gaming work so nicely together in the physical space, the collecting and use of digital dice of all colors and styles speaks to the deep-rooted dragon-like hoarding thing that happens when some gamers, most gamers, get their hands on something.
dddice using various skins for digital dice presents a way fun new way for that little hit of happiness that one gets when they pick up a new set of physical dice, a new pack of cards, a new book for a shelf, or whatever your flavor of collecting is. While our VTT (Virtual Table Top*) of choice at the weekly game is Roll20 and this totally works with that, the internet fidelity of a few of our players is such that we tend to just use the auto roll option and the little 3d math rocks don’t spin and dance across the battle maps we use.
However, this does not mean I do not instantly see why this is of value and will delight collectors and players from all spaces across the TTRPG community. There are so many dice skins to choose from and for the people who are trying to or actively breaking into the streaming space or wanting to show off some dice that are elevated from the basic sets available on the VTT platforms this is a great option.
What is really wild about dddice is the fact you can collect over 6,614 custom dice themes
created by 4,587 players and those numbers keep growing. On top of the vast selection, there are also really well-designed user interfaces on the dddice site that make the whole experience even more enticing and lower the barrier to spending way too much on all the colorful click-clacks. It honestly feels like functional Pokémon and if they did some kinda “first hit is free” email I could see myself going down a rabbit hole quickly.
