Reggie And Archie Are Becoming Men On The Next ‘Riverdale’
by Rachel Bellwoar
From beauty pageants one week to smut the next, Riverdale is covering all its bases as the final season continues. The trailer for next week’s episode is a little on the broad side. Reggie (Charles Melton) and Archie (KJ Apa) seem excited to be watching what one presumes will be a porno, while Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) appear to be having their own sexy photo shoot for reasons not yet disclosed.
As for this week’s episode, despite the efforts of Betty’s mom [Mädchen Amick] (but also because of her efforts — it’s confusing), Ethel (Shannon Purser) is officially Miss. Riverdale Teen Queen! Long may she reign, but also I guess the show isn’t interested in adding any more twists to the Milkman subplot, because if ever Alice was going to confront Hal (Lochlyn Munro) and expose him as the real killer it would’ve probably been during one of their fights this week.
Some other thoughts on “Miss Teen Riverdale”:
- There are many reasons why Ethel is this week’s MVP (her talent show performance during the beauty pageant, her Cinderella-esque delivery of the line, “I won’t get any tears on your dress”) but the number one reason has to be the dream sequence, which saw Ethel’s parents (Adam Lolacher and Jenn MacLean Angus) come back from the dead and ended with a literal record scratch.
- Maybe this is just the first time I’m realizing this but did anyone else notice that the dress shop where Archie’s mom (Molly Ringwald) works is called Perky in Peach (which I’m sure isn’t a reference to John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink)
- Was the montage at the end, of Betty (Lili Reinhart) responding to all of her advice letters, supposed to imply that she’s sending the same response to everyone because talk about lame (plus who actually takes the time to do stretches while they’re reading a letter)?
- So I guess Veronica (Camila Mendes) invented the concept of birth control pills?
- I doubt they actually filmed Betty reciting The Gettysburg Address, but how cool would it be if a deleted scene existed of her talent performance?
Riverdale airs Wednesdays on The CW.
