We Get Our First Look At ‘Rick And Morty: The Anime’

Rick and Morty has been through a rough patch recently. The Sci-Fi sitcom was a breath of fresh air when it debuted back in 2013. Viewers were taken in by the characters, dark humor, and devoured clues to larger world-building. The show grew in popularity to the point where 70 new episodes were ordered 2018.
This is when I believe the show started to collapse under its own weight. Seasons 5 and 6 were easily the worst in the series. The world-building and over arching story hinted at in season 2 got sidelined by stand alone episodes. The fandom became gradually more toxic and aggressive online. Then everything hit a boiling point when Justin Roiland was fired from the show after he was charged with domestic violence.
It’s been a long time since I’ve felt excited to see a new Rick and Morty adventure. Fortunately, there appears to be a ray of sunshine at the end of the tunnel. Judging by the teaser, Rick and Morty: The Anime has recaptured the fun of the original series while also adding something new. Director Takashi Sano is clearly giving this anime his all. I can think of no better way to honor Rick and Morty’s ten year anniversary.
