Webcomic Weekly: Rachael Smith’s Nap Comix

Webcomic Weekly, always delivering on the first part, rarely on the second! Whatever the frequency though, we’ll always be showing you the best webcomics you can find online. This time, more from the brilliant Rachael Smith… Nap Comix!

By now, you should know the name Rachael Smith, as I’ve been banging on and on about her comics for the longest time. She’s one of Britain’s best, with every new release always essential. Her most recent, Glass Half Empty had me describing it as ‘the most powerful and affecting book you’ll read this year.‘ Nothing’s changed on that one at all.

We’ve featured her in Webcomic Weekly before as well, with her Inktober comics, and her Quarantine Comix, but here she has another new webcomic series. Rachael and her partner Rob recently had their first child, Henry. And he is an absolute cutie – I’ve seen the photos!

But it does mean that new mum Rachael is making comics when she can. And that’s where Nap Comix comes in. Rachael describes it this way:

“Henry keeps taking very long naps on me. I have decided to try to use this time to make scribbly diary comics. Let’s see how I get on!”

Well, what Rachael describes as scribbly diary comics I’ll call looser but still every bit as emotive and beautifully done as her other work.

So, it’s Rachael, Rob, Henry, and Rufus the cat, and it’s adorable and perfect stuff. Just everyday life in the household, the troubles of being new parents, the joys, the tears, the never wanting them to grow up, and baby olympics! We really do need to see the baby long jump!
