‘Harley Quinn’ Season 4, Episode 2 Review

It’s kind of crazy just how many characters have been given the Harley Quinn treatment. Even minor DC characters, which only the most devoted comic book fans would be aware of, get time to deliver a line or two in a ridiculous manner. So whenever characters appear for the first time it’s always strange that they hadn’t been portrayed yet. Then again, the DC Universe is filled with so many different characters that there are plenty for Harley Quinn to choose from. This episode put two such characters in the spotlight.
Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) has been demoted in the Bat-Family to begin training and learn what it means to be a hero from the ground up. Her mentor is Alfred (Tom Hollander), who is trying to find his place in the family now that Bruce Wayne is in jail. What follows is a very interesting relationship as Alfred tutors Harley in more ways than one. Unfortunately, things take a bizarre turn when he tries to rob a bank. It’s unclear if he’s just doing it for money or actually wants to get arrested to be with Bruce. But regardless, he is sent to Arkham rather than Blackgate, where Bruce currently resides.
Poison Ivy (Lake Bell), meanwhile, is introduced to Talia al Ghul (Aline Elasmar). As a show that promotes feminine power, Talia is a perfect character to be featured. It’s also an interesting dynamic as Ivy is learning how to be a woman in a position of power that’s now about to find a friendship with another woman of power. So far, she and Harley have a relatively strong relationship given their dueling sides. Talia is sure to throw a wrench into this mix in future episodes. This episode was just an introduction of how all of that will eventually go down.
