Mr. ZIP Returns In Dynamite And Curiosity Ink’s Upcoming ‘Mr. ZIP’s Windy Day’

by Erik Amaya

The United States Postal Service mascot, Mr. ZIP, is back!

Dynamite and Curiosity Ink Media — under license by the USPS — announced Thursday the forthcoming arrival of Mr. ZIP’s Windy Day. The children’s book, written by Annie Auerbach and illustrated by Laura Catrinella, features the once ubiquitous USPS mascot, which the Postal Service still owns. First debuting in 1963 to herald the introduction of the then-new ZIP code system, he returns now for his 60th Anniversary. And his Windy Day will lead to a series non-fiction titles, novelty, picture, and activity books for kids in the 3-8-year-old range.

But in Zippy’s first 20-page board book, he and trusty eagle sidekick, B. Franklin, start their day in the mail room. But when “a sudden gust of wind blows all of the mail away. It’s up to this wholesome duo to track down all the scattered mail and then deliver it all before the end of the day!” Children will learn about how the mail is delivered and help Mr. ZIP get letters and packages to places like the ice cream parlor, flower shop, library, and more.

In a statement, Dynamite Entertainment CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci “Mr. ZIP is such a fun character, and his simple, clean design has translated to decades of nostalgia … We’re really excited at Dynamite to be playing a role in bringing this American icon back to center stage for whole new generations.”

Curiosity Ink Media EVP, and Publisher Jon Rosenberg added, “Because of Mr. ZIP’s natural talent and passion for problem solving and understanding how things work, the timing couldn’t be better to introduce him to a new generation of kids along with his feathered friend B. Franklin … We’re thrilled to have teamed up with Dynamite to distribute and bring Mr. ZIP’s mail bag of tips, tricks, and tools, to kids on his daily route.”

Mr. ZIP’s Windy Day is scheduled for release in October.
