DC Entertainment And Wendy’s Get The Kids Meal Toy Right
by Tony Thornley
Fandom always gets a little bit excited when a fast food restaurant adds a geeky toy to their kids meal offerings. Just this week though, Wendy’s partnered with DC Entertainment to provide one of the coolest toys we’ve seen in a long time.

I have two young boys who are both geeks in their own ways. My youngest is the most like me though, loving Marvel’s Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. However, he’s struggled to get into DC outside of the Teen Titans, despite a desire on his part to learn more. With this Wendy’s Kids Meal though, he’s extremely excited to try to collect them all.

The small mystery boxes all include three random 2 inch tall figurines, similar to the popular 80’s toy lines M.U.S.C.L.E. or Battle Beasts, and miniature trading cards of each character. But the most exciting thing about it is the assortment of characters.
Instead of the standard characters you’d normally see- Batman, Superman, Hal Jordan, the Martian Manhunter- each grouping contains at least one villain, one female character, and multiple characters of color. The Green Lantern in the line is even Jessica Cruz, one of the most interesting and complex characters in the DC pantheon.
It doesn’t just show off the vast pantheon of DC’s characters- I mean, when was the last time a toy line included Cruz or Mera, and has Wonder Woman’s sister Nubia EVER had a toy?- but it gives every kid an opportunity to see themselves in a wide release toy line. The trading cards even have some basic facts about each character, so kids can get to know a new favorite.

It’s an incredibly fun promotion, with a set of great figures with an incredible amount of detail for such a small scale.
The DC Comics figures are available in Wendy’s Kids Meals now while supplies last.
