‘Katie Cook’s Nothing Special’ Going To Be Very Special Indeed At PRH/Ten Speed Graphic

Katie Cook‘s wonderful Nothing Special, a massive webtoon hit, moves into a print series from Ten Speed Graphic & Penguin Random House with the first volume hitting 5th March 2024.
Yes, after years of it being beloved online, Cook’s Nothing Special finally has a print deal, with Ten Speed Graphic (an imprint of Penguin Random House) picking up the series. It will be the first original graphic novel by Cook, and the first of four books in the Nothing Special series.
Volume One will cover the Webtoon’s first season of magic, mayhem, and vegetables, and will feature never-before-seen material from Cook.

If you haven’t already fallen under Cook’s spell online, the Webtoons series is still there, although Cook did leave us all hanging back in January 2022 when she put it on hiatus.
Whether the new book deal will also see a continuation of the series past what’s already online we shall just have to wait and see. Similarly, we’ll be waiting and wondering how they’ll split the longer season 2 and the even longer and still unfinished season three into those four books. But maybe we should stop the speculating and just enjoy the books?

“Nothing Special: Volume One follows the life of Callie, a teenager who is friends with the ghost of a radish and whose dad owns a magical antique shop. Callie’s dad won’t let her join him on his collection trips in the magical realm “for her own protection”, so she’s lived her whole life in the human world and considers herself to be nothing special. But on her seventeenth birthday, Callie and her friend Declan find her home in disarray and her dad missing. Signs of a struggle point to the portal to the magical realm, and it’s up to Callie, Declan, and Radish to band together and bring him home. As they face creatures good and bad, and all sorts of adventure, Callie and Declan may just find out that they are both special in their own ways after all.”
Katie Cook’s been making Nothing Special online since 2017. She’s also responsible for Gronk: A Monster’s Story and you may well know her as one of the lead writers on IDW’s My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic comics. There have also been illustrated books for Star Wars and writing and drawing comics for Marvel, BOOM! Studios, Disney and plenty more.
