This ‘The Exorcist’ Regan ReAction Figure Is Super

‘Tis the season for holiday movies filled with horror and screams and strange glowing things! We’ve been watching our holiday movies since September 1st, as last year we were scrambling and did not take the time to slow down and really appreciate the reason for the Halloween season. A movie that gets regular rotation through the year but has not been part of the nightly holiday watchlist is the classic 1973 William Friedkin film based on the screenplay by William Blatty titled The Exorcist.
The Exorcist was the first movie I recall having such an aura of fear and mystery around it as a kid. For sure E.T. horrified me so much that I still can’t watch it to this day but the fear that The Exorcist caused was more universal and the stories that were shared about it ranged from weird to downright worrying.
Parents would talk about how it caused demons to infest their homes after their teen children saw it. Kids would talk about how it caused parents to lose control of their bladders in the theater to the embarrassment of themselves and all who took notice of their salty shame. Substitute teachers even shared stories about how the movie was so intense it caused the elderly and infirm to have issues with their hearts.
The expectation behind The Exorcist was so built up before I had ever seen it that when I found out it was going to be shown at a friend’s birthday party, I was so worried going into it that I couldn’t eat the cake offered out of pure stress of what this movie was going to do to us all.
Now, it’s a good movie, but it did not cause my heart to explode or me to lose control of my bowels. The fact that the movie did not do any kind of harm to a room full of middle school kids disappointed me in the whole thing. I would later read the book that William Blatty wrote also titled The Exorcist and that was a little more unnerving. The real enjoyment of the film for me comes in the nostalgic feels it gives me and the impressive way it was able to be part of the rumor mill conversation long before I had even seen it.
