NYCC 2023: Dynamite Partners With Warner Bros. Discovery For ‘ThunderCats’ Comics And More
by Erik Amaya
ThunderCats, ho!
In the opening hours of New York Comic Con 2023, Dynamite announced a big partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery to produce a number of comics and graphic novels based on some of its properties. The first of these will be ThunderCats from Declan Shalvey, Drew Moss, and and letterer Jeff Eckleberry. Other planned titles include The Flintstones, The Powerpuff Girls, Space Ghost, Jonny Quest, The Wizard of Oz, We Bare Bears and more.
“Warner Bros. has been at the heart of entertainment in America and across the world for an incredible hundred years, and home to so many beloved stories and franchises,” Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci said in a statement. “We’re incredibly excited to bring many of them with the biggest and most passionate fanbases back to comics or for the first time, as we work with WBD and wonderful creators to bring all-new stories to the fans!”

The new ThunderCats series, meanwhile, returns to the earliest days of Third Earth with Lion-O, Snarf, Cheetara, and the rest still getting their bearings after fleeing Thundera. Lion-O, for example, must get comfortable with being the ThunderCats new leader and wielding the legendary Sword of Omens. But as fans know, Third Earth is brimming with native inhabitants none-too-pleased to see new arrivals. It is also home of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living, an ancient evil who hopes to destroy the Sword of Omens and its magical Eye of Thundera. Will the ThunderCats be up to the task of stopping him? According to Dynamite, Shalvey will “dig deeper into the iconic character relationships and push further on the science fiction underpinnings, while Moss is set to portray the wondrous environments of Third Earth and the visually engaging action set pieces.” The series will also feature covers from Shalvey and Lucio Parrillo.
ThunderCats #1 is currently scheduled for release in February with other WBD titles also planned for early 2024.
