NYCC 2023: ComiXology Announces New And Returning Series Including ‘Nice Jewish Boys’ And ‘Boxed’

From a Jewish crime drama to a government agent trying to protect the world from the threat posed by artificial intelligence, digital comics publisher ComiXology announced several new and returning series today during at event in conjunction with New York Comic Con.
Nice Jewish Boys, a new series, debuting November 7, has writer Nick Kleid telling a modern-day crime story loosely based on real life. A family man struggling to make ends meet gets pulled into a life of crime in. Kleid described it as a lower-stakes Jewish version of The Sopranos.
It is important to tell these stories, he said, given the rise of antisemitism on social media.
Artificial intelligence is the focus of Boxed, another new ComiXology series from writer Mark Sable and artist Jeremy Haun.
Described as Blade Runner meets The Silence of the Lambs, Boxed centers on a government agent who must work with an ex, which happens to be AI. The pair must find sentient AI and contain them before they can do more damage to the world.
ComiXology also announced a new volume of Astonishing Times, the series from writers Frank Barbiere, Arris Quinones and artist Ruari Coleman. The new five-part story, called Rise of Kokin, features the cyberpunk samurai’s origin story.
Coleman described this volume as grittier than the first and chock full of complex characters.
As we covered earlier today, Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo are taking one more bite out of out of their vampire story The All Nighter, with the title’s third and final “season,” which has vampires and other monsters playing the role of superheroes and villains.
Debuting this Halloween, season three goes all out, with the team’s version of beasts like Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster. Despite the supernatural elements, the Eisner-winning team behind Afterlift, said The All Nighter is really about figuring out who you are – beyond who you think you are.
“It’s been a lot of fun just re-conceiving a lot of these classic monsters,” Loo said. “Might as well just go out with a bang.”
The series will end with issue #15.
