Super7’s ‘Chucky’ Toy Just Wants To Play

As a kid, I had a very vague understanding of Chucky the killer doll as an entity of horror. Shows like Tiny Toons and TMNT referenced him and there were sitcoms and movies that would toss the name Chucky around when referring to creepy dolls or toys that seemed unsettling.
I have seen the same thing happen recently with the name Annabelle in reference to the doll made popular by The Conjuring but Chucky by all accounts is the “Q-Tip” of evil toys. The brand has become the name for the thing in most people’s minds regardless of what it actually is called.
When I finally saw the Child’s Play movies for the first time myself I was less freaked out and more amused that someone had come up with the idea of a serial killer who somehow got into a kid’s toy and was murdering people. I saw it on a TV channel called USA, and what was I am sure a hard R-rated film was edited for content in such a way that it was maybe a soft PG-13 so all the blood, sex, and swearing was cut out leaving me to wonder why there was so much horror associated with what amounted to a pissed off kids toy attacking kids in a military school.
Eventually, I would see them as they had been intended to be viewed, but those early years with a very muted version of Chucky painted my impression of the character. To this day, that view has turned him more into an amusingly weird almost cartoonish menace, not the cold-blooded demon toy that he is intended to be.
The fan favorites over at Super7 have done it again with their line of ReAction figures. This Chucky action figure from Child’s Play 2captures the murderous toy in all his gory glory.
