‘Pokémon Go’ Celebrates Día de Muertos
by Anton Kromoff
Welcome to the table,
We need another moment like when Pokémon Go came out. In those first few months, I saw more community togetherness and team spirit between people than I think I have in my entire life. I have no PokéStops near me and it’s almost impossible to get out and about these days, but when the game first launched I was so deep into it that I was setting up businesses with social media plans to help capitalize on the frenzy. I also had decals on my car and fun hats and patches to show my involvement.

The app-based game is still going strong and between November 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. your local time, it will be having a celebration of Día de Muertos in Pokémon GO!
For those who don’t know, Día de Muertos is a holiday observed in Mexico and other parts of the Americas that celebrates the lives and the memories of friends and family who have moved on to another world.

You can dress your in-game avatar for the occasion with the Día de Muertos avatar item. This will be available to purchase in the in-game shop during this event and will continue to be available after the event ends for those who may miss out or forget.
Until next time, my house has more sugar skulls in it than most, I would imagine. This is a small thing happening in a game, but in a lot of ways it’s really beautiful to see the celebration of those who are no longer in this world with us getting this kind of acknowledgment. Be kind to each other.
