Kickstarting Comics: ‘Plant Daddy’ By Neil Watson-Slorance

Neil Watson-Slorrance’s Plant Daddy is kickstarting right now, an autobiographical tale of mental health and plants from a great comic maker.

I’m a little Last-minute on this Kickstarter – it finishes on Friday 3 November, but that’s just enough time for you to get over there and pledge funds for the latest from Watson-Slorrance, a Glaswegian artist whose Dungeon Fun and Pirate Fun are absolute recommended reading (and whole loads of fun of course!).

Plant Daddy is more in the autobiographic tone of Neil’s Modern Slorrance comics – inspired by Neil’s year of, as he puts it ‘some ups and downs.’ Through the course of all that, he developed a love of all gardening, plants, and nature.

So Plant Daddy is a part autobiographical reflection on gaining that love of all things plants and part Neil’s personal journey of grief and mental health. All of it done in beautiful A5 full-colour, inked and painted in watercolours.

Anyone who’s every seen and enjoyed Neil’s books will be immediately familiar with the look of this and no doubt many of you have contributed to the successful Kickstarter already. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, just take a look at the pages included here in this preview and know that you’re going to love it.

As far as campaign rewards go, Neil’s kept things very simple. There’s print and digital bundles of course. You can pick up the original pages – A4 sized, full-colour watercolour pieces, and there’s options to get hold of Neil’s previous autobiog & travelogue work in Modern Slorance.
