To say I love the Planet of the Apes movies is to say the sun gives life. It is a true statement but it undersells the complexity of my adoration for this franchise. The three most recent films have been some of my favorite movies of all time, and I return to them a few times a year putting down my phone and laptop and just sitting in awe of the performances and near-perfect storytelling.
There is so much to unpack in this trailer, from the seeming representation of multiple ape kingdoms or collectives, the hunting of humans for what seems to be labor or sport, and the introduction of even more technologically advanced weapons than what we have seen them wielding previously.
This franchise is one of the best offerings in the weird science fiction genre and I for one can’t wait to see more.
For now, this teaser trailer and the promo image they released a little over a year ago that has been sitting quietly in the corner of my desktop will have to keep me satiated but as soon as we get more information expect a full report.
