‘Army Of Darkness Forever’ Extends Its Comic Book Run

Dynamite’s Army of Darkness Forever is aiming to do just that.

The company announced Thursday that the title, from writer Tony Fleecs and artist Justin Greenwood, will extend past its initially planned run thanks to the enthusiasm of “fans, retailers, and critics on the series.” While many similar titles run for five or six issues, Army of Darkness Forever will go on … although it remains to be seen if “forever” is the book’s true objective. In a statement, Fleecs said, “We’re telling a big, ambitious story here and I’m really excited that the crew at Dynamite is committed to letting this one go all the way. I can’t wait for readers to see what we’ve got planned for Ash and the crew in the second half.”

Taking its cues from Army of Darkness‘s alternate ending, in which Ash Williams (played by Bruce Campbell) takes too much of the magical sleeping potion and wakes up in a post-apocalyptic 2093 instead of the intended 1993, the book tells three tales. The first returns Ash to 1993, where he resumes work at S-Mart. The second details his adventure in 2093 among a techno dystopian landscape. The third centers on the action at Castle Kandar in the middle ages. Each presents its own challenges as Ash navigates Deadites, his own foibles, and the endless nightmare unleashed when he glimpsed the Necronomicon.

The fifth issue of Army of Darkness Forever will appear in the December Previews and is scheduled for a February release.
