Cullen Bunn Returns To ‘The Deepest Catacombs’ On Patreon

by Brendan M. Allen

Author Cullen Bunn is returning to the world of The Deepest Catacombs with an all-new 22-page comic that will be released in serialized format. Inspired by vintage advertisements for Dungeons & Dragons, Bunn first released The Deepest Catacombs in 2020. Told in 25 single-page installments, the story featured different artists on every page. It was released for free for fans of comics, fantasy, and role-playing games.

“When I finished releasing the initial run of The Deepest Catacombs,” says Bunn, “I knew I would return to that world. I just loved the characters and the nostalgia, the magic and the monsters. And I loved working with so many talented artists! This was, of course, a labor of love, so it has taken me a bit of time to get the ball rolling again, but the story is going to be a ton of fun!”

In the new story, returning characters Randall, Annalynn, Kezira, Chops, and Fingerbones delve into a frozen, haunted castle filled with wyverns, draugr, ghosts, dragons, and vampires!

“At the end of the last series,” continued Bunn, “we saw a strange reptilian wyvern and undead rider in the sky. This story picks up where we left off. Our heroes will be adventuring into a dark, icy fortress. The setting is absolutely inspired by my love of old D&D modules like Ravenloft and Castle Amber.”

Among the artists who will be contributing to this series will be Danny Luckert, AC Zamudio, Nick Zamudio, Andres Cruz, and Rich Woodall

The comic will be released in a serialized format. Supporters of Bunn’s Patreon will have early access to the pages, as well as behind-the-scenes information, scripts, and RPG content. The comic pages will then be released for free to the reading public just a couple of days later. With The Deepest Catacombs, Bunn wanted all readers to be able to enjoy the story without worrying about subscriptions or paywalls.
