Another day, another virtual window opens up on the Comicon Advent Calendar, a comic a day all the day up to Christmas day…
Today, it’s back to 1991 for some completely bad taste bastiche action with the Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special by Keith Giffen, Alan Grant, and Simon Bisley, with Lovern Lindzierski on colours and Gaspar on letters.
Giffen, Grant, and Bisley are definitely going on Santa’s naughty list for this one. But settle down, as they want to tell you a story…
It’s everything you expect from Giffen, Grant, Bisley, and Lobo – swears, violence, bad taste a-plenty, as Lobo takes out a hit on Santa… thanks to the Easter Bunny…
So, off Lobo goes, but don’t feel too bad boys and girls. After all, Lobo’s doing a public service because this Santa’s not a very nice Santa at all… Kris ‘Crusher’ Kringle, running his operation at the North Pole with an iron fist that keeps his big army of small slaves hungry and angry… if only he’d given them proper weapons…
Of course, the battle with the Elves is nothing to what’s coming next…
It’s time for the main man to head into Santa’s grotto for a little chat… Lobo style…
Now remember kids – it’s just a story. Santa is real. And nice. And still has a head. Similarly, Lobo will not be doing this to your neighbourhood come Christmas Eve… we hope…
Utterly stupid, ridiculously violent, but damn, it’s a wonderful bit of over-the-top 90s stuff with some great art from Bisley, magnificently extreme plot from Giffen and packed full of sparkling dialogue from Grant.
Although, if I had to pick one line… oh, it would always be this one…
