Comicon Advent Calendar Day 15: Ol’ Saint Nick (Fury) Delivering Christmas Cheer

Time to open up another virtual window here on the Comicon Advent Calendar now, as we reach day 15 of our 24 days of comics festive fun…

We’re off for a little spy adventure now. Because what says Christmas more than an old man in spandex infiltrating an enemy base and beating the snot out of some foot soldiers?

Now, I’m a sucker for a good Nick Fury tale, always have been. The simple cool of it, the spy stuff, the gadgets. So when I see a first page like that, I’m pretty much prepped to enjoy it. And although it’s lightweight and silly, Ol’ Saint Nick‘s rather a fun little Fury tale.

Taken from the Marvel Holiday Special 2011, written by Aaron Shaps, art by Sebastian Piriz, colours by Jeff Campbell, and letters by Rob Steen, it’s Nick Fury infiltrating a Hydra base to take down a young Hydra agent and saboteur known only as The Scar…

Basically, it’s lots of Nick fighting Hydra agents, a little bit of Stark tech, more beating up on Hydra agents – it’s what they always look forward to at this time of year – and then a huge sugar rush of sentiment to end with.

It’s one of those ridiculous but still pretty daft fun sort of strips that Christmas superhero comics can always throw up, the sort where you spend most of the time seeing some hero and some villain going at each other and then, Merry Christmas everyone, time for the ending that’s sweet enough to push your sugar levels into dangerous territory.
