A Whole New ‘One Piece’ Show Is Coming!

I started watching One Piece in 2019. I needed background sound to fill the quiet time as I worked and it was long enough that I thought it would just be some creative static that played in the background of my life for a little while. So many other shows had been burned through multiple times to fill the same need. The Walking Dead, Law & Order SVU, and a slew of other offerings from Netflix to Hulu and beyond were consumed passively as I worked on game design, design work, and a million other things I needed to get done.
One Piece was supposed to be a background thing. I’m not a huge fan of over-the-top and cartoonish tones in my Anime. I like the darker and more grounded titles like Fate Stay Night, Iron-Blooded Orphan, Cowboy Bebop, or Psycho Pass. This show about a goofy kid with a straw hat and Tom & Jerry–like overreactions felt like it was just going to be… noise.
I’m now on my 9th watch-through of the series. I tend to watch at least an episode or three a day if not more. I don’t know if there is another story, set of characters, or piece of media that I love the way I love One Piece. So this announcement made in the middle of the night ( at least in my small corner of the world ) caught me totally off guard and frankly has me a little excited if for no other reason than it means… more One Piece. Or I guess in this instance, The One Piece.
As the capstone of Jump Festa 2024 on the One Piece special stage, they have announced a remake of the anime series at WIT Studio. The series, under the title THE ONE PIECE, will be a remake of the series starting from the earliest East Blue arc with totally new animation produced by WIT for the 25th anniversary of the anime series.
This is wild as the original anime is still ongoing, and the manga is not finished yet. I’m shocked, confused, and more than anything I think just excited that more One Piece, or The One Piece, is coming. There is something so powerful and important about One Piece and seeing this happening feels like something the world needs in this moment.
