Jumping On: Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Kicking Off On December 27, 2023

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Book of Butcher #1, BOOM! Studios

BOOM! Studios is going back to the well in the universe of James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s Something Is Killing The Children  with Maxine Slaughter’s journey from White to Black Mask. What will she uncover about House Butcher on her way to New Orleans? Five years deep, SiKtC still delivers.

Another Tynion title. This one in collaboration with artist Fernando Blanco. A new story arc kicks off with Gabriel Winter and the button push that changed the world. As he and his friends reckon with the consequences, SA Siobhan Silk must unravel the actions that started this whole thing, and attempt to uncover the origin of PH3AR.

Action Comics 2023 Annual, DC

Action Comics has been building to this for three years. Norah Stone’s true form has been revealed. A gateway between worlds is opened, and the invasion of Earth begins. The multiverse’s most powerful families collide above Metropolis. Which legacy will Otho-Ra choose? Will the followers of Blue Earth defend their leader or their home? It all culminates here.
