SWAG Adventures: The CES 2024 Edition
by Gary Catig
You know after each event Comicon.com attends, we have to show off all the SWAG we picked up. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is no exception. Maybe it’s because it was our first time and we aren’t as familiar with everything and/or we were so busy with appointments and panels, but our haul is pretty modest. Because it’s a tradeshow, much of the freebies were what you could find at a career fair.

Anticipating a good haul, we picked up reusable bags to help with carrying everything not to mention the backpack provided by CES. An interesting start-up company spun out of academia is Motmot (T-shirt). They develop small aquatic drones that can travel through pipes to assess water infrastructure quality. The item that feels the most like con SWAG is the futuristic headset similar to the one used in 3 Body Problem. We’ll probably do an unboxing of it closer to the series’ release date.

For a non artsy show, the sticker game at CES is pretty good. Although if you’re Galeon, who uses blockchain with cutting edge medical data to improve efficiency and service from hospitals and caregivers, you might not want to let Disney and Sony know that you’re using their characters to promote your company. We also picked up some keychains, and since CES is held in Las Vegas, we received craps dice and poker chips from Drivesafe, a company with a line of personal breathalyzers.

Then of course, there are number of different pens. Sony’s might be the most versatile since it also includes a flashlight and compass. To help fight off con crud, Ring gave out spray-on hand sanitizer.
Now that we know what to expect, here’s hoping that next year we can bring in a better CES haul.
