Webcomic Weekly: New Dr Who, New Paint Doktah Who, New Tyme Lawd?

Welcome once more to Webcomic Weekly, another entry in the quest to show you so many great webcomic things on that there Internet. Sure, the whole weekly thing is proving to be about as likely as finding a roomful of honest but I’m still here giving you a regular look at great comics online…

And with a whole new Doctor Who happening over Christmas with the debut of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor #15, we have a sudden reappearance of an old favourite from quite the while ago… Paint Doktah Who...

Many years ago, Zach Silberberg ran a blog dedicated to himself and others submitting Doctor Who images and comics drawn in Paint. It was called, quite naturally, Paint Doktah Who. Zach didn’t start it but he ended it, right in the middle of the Capaldi era as he just lost his motivation. Hey, happens to us all.

But, we’ve got a new Doctor, the definite sense of it being a new beginning and, at least myself and daughter thought a damn fine start to the 15th Doctor era with a Christmas special that ticked plenty of the boxes and was just a big heap of fun.

So, with all that happening, Silberberg has begun drawing again and has an idea to have someone take over the Paint Doktah Who blog to move it forward.

Here’s what Silberberg has to say…

“Hi everyone. it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? paintdoktahwho feels (and is!) a relic from over 10 years ago. it was started by one person, moderated by a few, handed down to another, and then shut down in the middle of the capaldi era. and you know what? that sucked. that was a bad decision. i stopped posting because it was too much upkeep and i didnt have it in me to find someone new to run the blog. my love for doctor who had faded. the chibnall era wasted jodie whittaker. the fandom felt stagnant. i didnt feel like this blog was worth returning to.

‘but now… as the new era of doctor who is about to begin, a new era of silly little parody comics should accompany it. my DMs are open. it’s time for a new showrunner. uh. blogrunner. i dunno. the series feels like it has new life, so too should this blog, which itself feels like a weird little corner of the fandom that shouldnt sit and rot, but should live on and evolve with the show.

‘so, if you are an artist active on tumblr who wants to take the reins, hit me up. let’s chat. i’ll find the right person. or maybe people! maybe it’ll go back to the old days with a few different artists. who knows. whatever feels right. i’m sorry for shutting it down for the last few years. i hope this place ends up in good hands
