‘Cutthroat Island’ 4K Blu-ray Steelbook To Set Sail In April

by David Lewis

Before Johnny Depp made pirate movies profitable, fans of the genre were treated to the pricey box office flop-turned-cult favorite Cutthroat Island, making its 4K debut in April from Lionsgate.

Directed by 1990s action maestro Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, Deep Blue Sea), 1995’s Cutthroat Island stars Geena Davis and Matthew Modine in a swashbuckling saga that hearkens back to classic Hollywood seafaring adventures, only with an infamously astronomical budget. Frank Langella and Maury Chaykin also come along for the ride. Harlin and Davis would re-team one year later for the superior spy film The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Lionsgate’s handsome new Steelbook includes the film on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital, and boasts a treasure trove of bonus feature booty including an audio commentary with Harlin, interviews, trailers, and even a short film made by Modine.

Cutthroat Island arrives April 2 on 4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital Steelbook for the suggested retail price of $39.99, exclusively at Walmart.
