If you decided to wait on Supergirl until it reached streaming, your time has almost come.
HBO Max announced Thursday that the film will arrive on the platform September 10th at 8pm ET. The scheduling echos HBO’s time-honored tradition of big movie premieres on Saturday night, positioning the picture as an important addition.
Which is interesting considering the divided opinion around Supergirl. While we mostly enjoyed the film outside of some oddly-shot action scenes, others decided it was so unworthy that it should mark the end of the emerging DC Cinematic Universe. An opinion we think is extreme as, sometimes, it is okay for a genre film to moderate its stakes and center on a smaller problem than the end of reality. But with theater ticket prices being what they are, we understand why many stayed home when the movie was released in June.
But now, HBO Max subscribers can judge for themselves if they were right in holding out for its streaming debut. Like so many other films before it, we imagine Supergirl will find its audience. Keep in mind the 1984 version also has a following — and not just among the cheesy movie watcher set. Some genuinely enjoy it for what it offered and, honestly, the 2026 film has much more to offer in terms of characterization and production design. Just don’t expect spectacular fight scenes or a close adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Instead, prepared to be charmed by Kara Zor-El (), Lobo’s (Jason Momoa) occasionally appearances, and a superhero take on True Grit.
Supergirl arrives on HBO Max September 10th.
