‘Ultimate X-Men’ #1 Trailer Promises A Mutant Epic Unlike Any Other

by Tony Thornley

Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe has already proven to be completely unlike the original. A secret society rules the world. The heroic origins of multiple heroes have been meddled with. And now the Ultimate X-Men appears to be completely unlike anything we’ve seen from Marvel’s Merry Mutants before.

Ultimate Spider-Man has created a completely different version of Peter Parker’s world. Ultimate Black Panther launches this week with a war between Wakanda and the rest of the African continent. In March, writer-artist Peach Momoko brings her unique vision to the X-Men.

Ultimate X-Men is the story of Japanese teenager Hisako Ichiki, AKA Armor. When her powers manifest, she finds her life changed forever as one of the first generation of mutants. The classic world of the X-Men will be blended with classic Japanese folklore and urban legends for this completely new take.

“At first, I was worried about being chosen for such an important project, but the more I draw and write the series, the more confident I am with my own vision of Ultimate X-Men,” Momoko told AiPT Comics in last week’s X-Men Monday column. “Ultimate X-Men isn’t directly influenced by classic X-Men stories. I like to believe C.B. [Cebulski] and Jonathan Hickman chose me because they wanted something completely new and different.”
