Jumping On — Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Dropping February 14, 2024

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Creepshow: Joe Hill’s Wolverton Station #1, Image

One of my earliest memories of horror cinema is 1982’s Creepshow. I loved it then. Love it now.

Joe Hill takes a crack at the iconic franchise, telling a terrifying tale of a businessman whose commute is about to get a lot hairier when his train makes an unexpected stop at Wolverton Station. The feature-length one-shot also includes a special appearance by The Creep. 

If You Find This, I’m Already Dead #1, Dark Horse

Writer Matt Kindt teams up with artist Dan McDaid, colorist Bill Crabtree, and letterer Jim Campbell for a multi-dimensional cosmic odyssey presented in a pulp magazine-sized. 

An embedded reporter with US Marines heading to the hostile pocket universe called Terminus. Ten minutes in, the entire marine squad is wiped out and she has to survive (and report) on her own. Terminus is full of cosmic wonders–and sci-fi “gods” that are in the middle of a political power struggle. The language is alien, and the politics are deadly. Can she survive long enough to figure out what’s going on and get home to tell the story?

The Cabinet #1, Image

I had a chance to speak with Jordan Hart about this tongue-in-cheek supernatural adventure series. An atypical teen named Avani, and a midwestern jock named Trent teleport across a post-Cold War landscape to retrieve bizarre artifacts. They need the relics to activate the arcane powers of a 17th century cabinet to fix Avani’s horrible mistake from the last time she used it, unleashing an ancient evil from its prison and accidentally slaughtering her own parents. An ancient puzzle TARDIS and a primordial evil entity? Yes. Give me all of this.

Hart co-writes the miniseries with David Ebeltoft, and artist Chiana Raimondi makes her US comics debut.
