The Spawn Universe Expands Even Further With A Huge Slate Of New Series Announcements

Todd McFarlane Productions is expanding its publishing presence at Image Comics with three new titles, all under the umbrella title of “The New U”. And all selling at just $2.99 or $3.99 an issue.

First up will be Sam & Twitch: Case Files series set to launch this March, spinning out of events from Spawn #350 and written by Todd McFarlane and Jon Goff with art by Szymon Kudrański. 

Here’s the sales pitch:

“The New U will offer fans a next-level reading experience featuring gripping storylines, dynamic characters, and jaw-dropping plot twists—all while retaining the low introductory price points that make Spawn titles the best bargain in the industry to date.”

And here’s more on its first new title:

“Sam & Twitch: Case Files will drop readers into the gritty world of crime-solving with everyone’s fan-favorite Spawn Universe detectives in their own, brand-new series… Episodic tales of murder, intrigue, and deception abound in this noir crime drama masterfully created by McFarlane, and co-plotted by Jon Goff. It boasts art by Szymon Kudrański (Something Epic), whose ultra-realistic visuals and cinematic style jump from the page and make it feel more like a movie than a comic”. 

Gritty crime drama murder mysteries and with an R-rating sensibility, as you can tell from our accompanying sneak peek at some interiors. Featuring the titular characters of Sam and Twitch, who first appeared in Spawn #1 way, way back in 1992.

Following this series will be Rat City #1 coming in April by Erica Schultz (The Deadliest Bouquet, Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood) and Zé Carlos (Captain America, Strange Academy: Moon Knight):

“Readers will be immersed in the fantastical, sci-fi story of Peter Cairn, an ex-soldier, an amputee, and a Hellspawn in a post-war future. But Peter isn’t dead like Al. Peter got his Spawn powers from the nanites in his prosthetic legs—nanites that were affected when Al Simmons initiated his necroplasmic detonation in the present. Al had no clue that the effects would ripple across—not just space—and but time as well.”

Then in May comes a three-issue Monolith by Sean Lewis (Bear Pirate Viking Queen) and Valerio Giangiordano (Two Moons) exploring “the origin of the hulking Hellspawn.”

What connection does he have to one of the most savage of his kind, Omega Spawn?

Come the summer months of June and July, expect three more four-issue miniseries: Misery, Medieval Spawn, and Spawn Kills Every Spawn.

Then, in August, Violator gets his own oversized, six-issue miniseries with  Knights vs. Samurai following later that the month.

In September fans get a new ongoing with Deadly Tales and in October, a bi-monthly series—with extended page count—No Home Here—will launch. And if that wasn’t enough, several more titles, including Focus, Spawn: The Dark Ages, She-Spawn, Bloodletter, and Spawn 77 will be debuting.
