by David Lewis
If you’ve been waiting for Martin Scorsese‘s The Departed to finally make its arrival on 4K, the delay is almost over. The hit 2006 thriller will be available on 4K Ultra HD Disc and Digital for the first time April 23rd.
In The Departed, a fresh-faced gangster (Matt Damon) and a rookie state trooper (Leonardo DiCaprio) enter into an endless game of double- and triple-crossing when they’re pit against each other in a Boston underworld ruled by Irish-American gangster Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson).
Based on the 2002 Hong Kong action thriller Internal Affairs, the fast-paced crime saga has as many twists and turns as it does familiar faces, including Vera Farmiga, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Alec Baldwin, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Corrigan, and James Badge Dale. The Departed was nominated for five Oscars and picked up four, including Best Picture and Best Director.
The 4K remaster the film was supervised Academy Award-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker (Raging Bull, The Aviator).
Bonus features include several documentaries, including the brand new “Guilt and Betrayal: Looking into The Departed,” plus nine deleted scenes with introductions by Scorsese.
The Departed will be available for purchase in a 4K Ultra HD steelbook edition and digitally on April 23rd.
