Social Media Gets Creative With WriteSeen

Social media platforms exist for numerous creative mediums. A new one seeks to create a unique space for writers.
WriteSeen is a new free platform founded by screenwriter and poet Jonathon Nimmons. After an unsuccessful attempt to deliver a screenplay to Sir Anthony Hopkins in 2021, Nimmons began work on the platform with the vision to help writers move beyond the various barriers that exist within the industries.
The web portal for the platform has members in over 30 countries after being live for less than a week. Plans are in motion to allow the platform to operate in multiple languages.
What is WriteSeen? Well, it’s a platform that allows creatives to meet one another and upload their works in an encrypted and secure space. This space is available only to verified Publishers, Producers, Agents, and Entertainment Managers who may browse through the works anonymously.
Works that are uploaded are given a timestamp which can be made public or hidden and can be made downloadable (at the creator’s choosing) with the click of a button. The space also allows for video and audio clips as well as video pitches. And the IP belongs to the creator, rather than WriteSeen or any industry professionals who might see the work.
It’s not just about uploading work for the industry to read, though. One of the features is called Shelf which allows the industry pros a chance to have conversations with creators about their work. Through those conversations, they can add the creator’s work to their Shelf and commence exclusive conversations about the material and opportunities to work together. Adding the work to the Shelf stops other professionals from being able to do the same, meaning no interruptions as professionals and creators conversate.
Another feature is called Read. Here, the uploaded works can be viewed by either the authors of the uploads or industry pros. Notes can be added to the work, tracked by the page, and then downloaded as a PDF copy.
For those who work in more collaborative creative fields such as comics (writers, artists, illustrators, and colorists), the space offers a way to connect with each other and creators of other mediums.
WriteSeen’s feed comes with posting restrictions, unlike other social media platforms. The pressure of comments, likes, and reposts can be restricted so that global audiences will see the work regardless of what responses it might have received. As with other platforms, images as well as audio and video can be attached.
A designated feedback area is on the way, where works can be shared and constructive notes can be shared in a peer-to-peer style communication. A beta version is on the way for reading between creatives with invites for industry pros to add their own opinions.
