‘The Batman’ Sequel Delayed To 2026

The ever-shifting fortunes of Warner Bros. Discovery DC film initiatives shift again.
Variety reports Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman — currently known as The Batman Part II — has been delayed by one year, moving from October 3rd, 2025 release to October 2nd 2026. Details are currently scarce, so the reason for the postponement is currently a mystery worthy of The Batman’s (Robert Pattinson) skills. But, perhaps, the switch has something to do with a 2025 film calendar currently overstuffed with superhero films neither Warner nor Disney could cancel or postpone. At present, the year will feature four Marvel films — Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and Blade — while Warner will debut its new DC Cinematic Universe with James Gunn‘s Superman.
Although, to be honest, we expect Blade to be delayed if not cancelled outright in the next few weeks.
Presumably, the sequel will see Pattinson return as the Dark Knight Detective as he solves a new case and, maybe, gets a better understanding of himself in the process. Or not. The field is wide open for just about anything to happen except the return of Carmine Falcone (John Tuturro). Additionally, a Penguin television series set to run on Max in the near future will fill some of the gap as Oswald Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) continues to ascend the ladder of Gotham City’s underworld. Whether or not that will have any bearing on the The Batman Part II‘s plot remains to be seen.
Outside of Pattinson, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, other cast for the sequel is unknown. Thanks to his cameo at the end of the first film, many assume Barry Keoghan will appear as the Joker, but we sincerely hope his character turns out to be Hush — someone who could use some exposure as the Joker has his own film series at the moment.
The Batman Part II,meanwhile, comes to theaters in October of 2026.
