‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Trailer Offers A Glimpse Into The High Republic

by Erik Amaya

It’s an age of light and peace. But it’s still Star Wars. And this trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, Star Wars: The Acolyte teases the end of the High Republic era with murders, plenty of Jedi, wuxia-inspired uses of the Force, and a mysterious stranger with a red lightsaber.

Set 100 or so years prior to The Skywalker Saga, the program follows Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and his former Padawan, Mae (Amandla Stenberg) — glimpsed here as a rogue combatant — as they investigate a spate of shocking crimes and uncover what Lucasfilm calls “a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.” Is the Dark Side hiding in plain sight again? Or is the light of the Republic not the refuge it will be for a subsequent Sith Lord?

The program also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Some of them are Jedi while some play others making their way through the end of the era. Notably, Suotamo appears as a Wookie Jedi called Kelnacca while Keen can be spotted in greyish face makeup as a Jedi called Jecki. Of course, most of the plot remains a mystery for Sol and Mae character to unravel.

Star Wars: The Acolyte debuts with the first two episodes on June 8th.
