‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar And Three More’ Now Streaming As A Feature Film

After a well-deserved Oscar win, Netflix has repackaged Wes Anderson‘s collection of short films as one feature-length anthology. Now titled, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More, the film showcases a series of Roald Dahl short stories creatively adapted into Anderon’s signature aesthetic.
The cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Bennedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar makes fantastic uses of costume and set transitions. The Swan is performed as a monologue, but still resonates emotionally. The Rat Catcher sees Anderson revisit stop-motion. Poison leaves much to the viewer’s imagination. The film is bookended by Dahl’s advice on being a writer.
Anderson manages to capture the nostalgic feeling of “they don’t make films like this anymore,” while also the novel excitement of “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this before.” The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More is a master auteur’s interpretation of a beloved author.
