Kickstarting Comics – ‘Tara Togs: The Silence Of Unicorns’ Is A New Mystery Adventure Graphic Novel Inspired By TinTin

Tara Togs – The Silence of Unicorns is an all-new all-ages graphic novel by Stephen (Stref) White raising funds right now on Kickstarter – ligne claire with a Scottish twist that looks fantastic.

Obviously inspired by Hergé‘s Tintin, Tara Togs is a true labour of love by former Oor Wullie and Broons artist Stephen White. It’s a 68-page album set in Edinburgh. Five years in the making, the results are quite wonderful, as you can see by all the art, including a 6-page preview, on this page.

Olly’s already covered the announcement of the Kickstarter here, but it’s such a good-looking book that I couldn’t resist signal boosting it a little here, including adding in more of that great Stref art for you.

Here’s the description of the book…

“Set in modern times Scottish adventurer Tara Togs dreams of becoming a professional photographer and her knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time lands her smack-bang in the middle of a gang of ruthless criminals and their plot to steal a valuable piece of art. Armed only with her quick wits and unfailing bravery, she sets out to bring the gang to justice. She manages to make a few friends on her adventure, including Heggy the Private Detective, that can lend a helping hand. Only together do they have a chance of stopping the thieves and solving the mystery of one of the world’s greatest lost treasures.”

Yep, such a Tintin vibe in art and story for sure, but that’s never a bad thing in my experience, especially one that looks this good.

The Kickstarter features the book itself, in digital and print, but also the chance to get hold of the 16-page comic featuring Tara Togs in the short adventure ‘Hot Dog’, which features Edinburgh’s very famous ‘Greyfriars Bobby’. Extras include copies of various ComicScene publications, bookplates, sketches, and original art from the book.

The book’s already hit its funding goal and way more, but that’s no reason not to get behind what looks like a great new book.
